A Kansas City wholesale grocery company announced Tuesday that it has entered into an agreement to buy many of the assets of Affiliated Foods Southwest Inc. of Little Rock. Affiliated Foods filed for bankruptcy Tuesday, closing its Little Rock warehouse.

Associated Wholesale Grocers Inc. of Kansas City, Kan., will also begin servicing many of Affiliated’s former customers and is interviewing former Affiliated employees for positions with AWG, according to a release issued Tuesday. The release does not state what assets AWG will buy, nor does it disclose a purchase price.
“We are pleased that the Board of Directors of Affiliated Foods has chosen the proposal we submitted. AWG’s offer provides the best opportunity for independent retailers throughout Arkansas, Texas, and Louisiana to grow their business and meet the needs of their customers,” Jerry Garland, AWG’s president and CEO, said in the release. “AWG’s resources will be focused on providing the retailers a smooth transition with little disruption in product availability.”
