Cleanup of tree limbs damaged in storms nearing completion

SPRINGDALE – By early April, contractors removing ice storm debris from city and county streets expect to be done, and by that time, about 1.3 million cubic yards of ripped branches and trees will have been chipped, shipped or burned.

As of Wednesday, a million cubic yards of brush and limbs had been picked up in Springdale, Fayetteville, Rogers, Bentonville and Benton County. Though Bentonville is finished with debris removal, the other four are moving into second and third sweeps of neighborhoods.

Benton and Washington counties are included in the federal disaster declaration, making the counties and the region’s municipalities eligible for a 75 percent reimbursement from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and a 12.5 percent reimbursement from the state.
