Pilgrim’s Pride Corp. said Monday that it plans to idle a chicken processing plant in Clinton and a further-processing facility in Bossier City, La.
The company said both moves are expected to be completed within 60 days and are part of the company’s efforts “to operate more efficiently and return to profitability amid high feed costs and an oversupply of chicken on the market.”
The idling the plants will eliminate about 600 positions.
The company said value-added items produced in Bossier City will be shifted to other Pilgrim’s Pride further-processing facilities.
Earlier this year, the company closed a plant in El Dorado, cutting 600 jobs there.
